Editorial Policy

How Home Upgrade Desk sources information, keeps editorial decisions independent of compensation, handles corrections, and maintains its content.

Reviewed by the Home Upgrade Desk editorial team Updated How we review

Our standards

  • Useful first. Every page should answer a real homeowner question directly and help the reader decide what to do next, including when the answer is that a plan may not be a good fit.
  • Accurate and specific. We avoid presenting generalizations as universal. Where terms vary by contract, we say so and point readers to the contract.
  • Transparent. We disclose material relationships and explain how we make money.

Sourcing

We rely on primary sources wherever possible: providers’ sample contracts, terms and conditions, and official plan documents, as well as government and regulator publications. We link to sources when they’re publicly available. We don’t make legal or regulatory claims without an appropriate source, and we avoid state-specific claims we can’t verify.

Independence

Our editorial team decides what we cover and what we conclude. Affiliate partners don’t review or approve our content before publication, and compensation doesn’t change our criteria or assessments. Compensation can affect which offers we’re able to display and where links appear; we disclose this on relevant pages and in our affiliate disclosure.

Fact-checking and updates

Volatile details, such as prices, fees, plan names, terms, and availability, are re-checked on a more frequent schedule than evergreen explainers. Each page shows the date it was last reviewed. We update or remove information that’s out of date.

Corrections

If we get something wrong, we want to fix it. To request a correction, email corrections@homeupgradedesk.com with the page URL and what you believe is incorrect, along with a source if you have one. When we correct a material error, we update the page and note the correction on it.

AI and automation

We may use software tools to help research, draft, or check content. A person on our editorial team reviews everything before it’s published and is responsible for its accuracy.

This page is general education, not legal, financial, or insurance advice. Home warranty terms vary by provider, plan, and state; the contract you sign controls what is covered. Spotted an error? Request a correction.
