Short answer
The best plan depends on what in your home you most want protected. We organize recommendations by need, such as appliances or major systems, and each page lists its own selection criteria. We only recommend a plan after checking its current sample contract, and we date every figure.
Recommendations by need

Every “best” page on this site follows the same rules:
- A defined reader need. Each page addresses one situation and says who it’s for and who it isn’t.
- Published criteria. The criteria and their order of importance are listed on the page, so you can apply them yourself.
- Verified, dated details. We list plan details only after checking the provider’s current sample contract or plan terms, and we show the date we checked.
- Trade-offs, not just advantages. Each recommendation notes its limitations.
- Editorial assessment kept separate. Our opinions are labeled as such and kept apart from facts published by the provider.
We don’t publish near-duplicate “best” lists under slightly different names. We add a new need-specific page only when it serves a different reader and has its own criteria.
How affiliate relationships fit in
We may earn a commission when you click some links to providers. That can affect which offers we’re able to show and where links appear. It doesn’t change our criteria or assessments, and we include plans whether or not we have a commercial relationship with the provider when we can verify their terms. Read our affiliate disclosure for details.

This page is general education, not legal, financial, or insurance advice. Home warranty terms vary by provider, plan, and state; the contract you sign controls what is covered. Spotted an error? Request a correction.
